The most telling example of Right-wing hypocrisy you'll see today

Former Vice President Dick Cheney was recovering Saturday at a hospital in Falls Church, Va., after undergoing a heart transplant, his office said. Cheney was in the Intensive Care Unit of Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, his office said in a statement. Cheney, 71, who served as vice president in the George W. Bush administration, has had a long history of heart trouble and has been on the cardiac transplant list for more than 20 months…. “Although the former Vice President and his family do not know the identity of the donor, they will be forever grateful for this lifesaving gift,” aide Kara Ahern said in a written statement that was authenticated by several close associates of the former vice president.

No, I’m not going to make the obvious joke about not being aware that Cheney even had a heart. The likes of Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Jimmy Fallon will no doubt be doing that for me…and with far more alacrity than I could muster.

While I’m certainly happy for Darth Vader and his family, it would ignoring the obvious to not take note of the irony inherent in Cheney’s transplant. An outspoken and committed opponent of government-funded healthcare, the former Vice-President just had his heart swapped out via…wait for it…government-funded healthcare. Yes, tax dollars were used to pay for replacing the heart of a man opposed to using tax dollars for that sort of thing. Even better, the normal cut-off age for this sort of transplant is 65. Cheney is 71.

Nope, no special consideration or special treatment here. Move along, people; there’s nothing to concern yourself with. No sanctimony here….

I lack the vocabulary to do justice to the epic, unprecedented hypocrisy exhibited by Cheney’s transplant. I certainly don’t begrudge Cheney his publicly-funded life-saving transplant. What I do resent is that he would deny other Americans the very same thing. Do you really think that 71-year-old Joe Schlabotnik from the trailer park would have received the same world-class care…never mind the heart transplant? If you answer in the affirmative, you’re either not paying attention or you watch WAY too much Fox News Channel. Or both.

Remember; when a Liberal does it, it’s the worst sort of evil, selfish, freedom-killing Socialism imaginable. When a Conservative does it, it’s simply doing the right thing for the right reasons.

And Conservatives whine about “evil” Liberals?? Sometimes I think they’d be perfectly happy living under a bridge roasting squirrels- as long as no one around them had any squirrels.
