If you want to know just how anti-democratic today's GOP is, look at what they're doing to Michigan

I grew up believing that America is a democracy. At least that’s what we’re all taught in school, right? One man, one vote, majority rules. In Michigan, Republicans definitely have the “majority rules” part down. Since Gov. Rick Snyder took office, Michigan Republicans have systematically worked to deny voting rights and have for all intents and purposes eliminated democracy. If you think I’m kidding, watch the videos; Rachel Maddow explains exactly what Republicans have been up to in Michigan. In an era when Republican state legislatures have become increasingly more radical, Michigan goes the head of the class. This is what happens when laws mean nothing, when the only thing that matters is lust for power and the drive to remake America in your image.

Michigan’s Republican-controlled legislature has virtually eliminated voting rights on the local level. They’ve circumvented the law and eliminated the right of Democrats to vote in the legislature. This is something that should be of concern to anyone- Liberal or Conservative, Republican or Democrat- who cares about American democracy. If the democratic process can be ground to powder in Michigan, it can happen anywhere. If Michigan Republicans can remake democracy so that their agenda and ONLY their agenda can be put in place, it can and will happen in other states. When that happens, democracy as we know it will cease to exist. What becomes America after that is anyone’s guess.

This is what happens when Americans stop paying attention and repeatedly vote against their interests.

WE DESERVE BETTER.

Evidently the Mayans have a wicked sense of the absurd was the previous entry in this blog.

A lesson most Americans aren't learning is the next entry in this blog.
