Those who don't know history are condemned to repeat it: they're in Congress or work for Big Oil

It’s been two years since the Gulf Coast oil spill, so you’d think that Big Oil would be two years down the road toward increased safety and faster disaster response times. You’d also probably be thinking that Congress has used those two years to create a legislative environment that requires oil companies to update their response capabilities and technology.

Well, if you had been naive enough to believe those things, you’re going to be horribly disappointed- though probably not terribly surprised- to learn that two years has changed exactly nothing. In fact, the industry’s response capability and technology STILL remains largely unchanged from 1979, the last time a large oil spill hit the Gulf of Mexico.

So much for learning the lessons of history….
