It's not football unless they're wearing push-up bras, #2

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Just when things seemed to be going great for the Lingerie Football League (like last fall with Sean Salisbury doing color commentary), news drops that the fledgling operation will shutter its U.S. operation until April 2013. Oh, of course, the LFL will still have a four-team league in Canada and games in Australia. The U.S., however, will be left lingerie-less. This is like the biggest slap in the face to the U.S. - ever. We invented the game, dammit!

I can always tell when the Lingerie Football League is in the news, because the traffic here at WWJD spikes. It would seem that a lot of horny, dateless males are taking the latest LFL news pretty hard.

While the LFL will still be operating leagues in Canada and playing games in Australia, the US will be without lingerie football until April of next year. While some wags will debate the impact of not seeing hot, scantily-clad women playing tackle football, the LFL is turning out to be surprisingly popular. Yes, it’s a gimmick, but the LFL doesn’t see itself that way, and LFL Commissioner Mitchell Mortaza is looking to take the lingerie game international:

“Yes, we have shifted the LFL US schedule, because we believe ultimately LFL Football in the US and abroad is a better product in the Spring and Summer months. This extended hiatus also enables our LFL US teams to focus on recruiting and ultimately continuing to teach the fundamentals of the game.”

“This hiatus also enables us to take this great game of ours international with the premiere of LFL Canada and in 2013 the kickoff of LFL Australia. We are focused to not simply resting on being called the ‘fastest growing sports league in the US’ (BusinessWeek) but the fastest growing sports franchise in the world.” said Mitchell Mortaza.

It would seem logical to question whether the LFL will be able to bounce back from being on hiatus this season. The Arena Football League is struggling to work its way back into the American sporting consciousness after taking the 2011 season off. Think about it, though; hot, scantily-clad women never get old…so of course the LFL will bounce back. And I’d hazard a guess that the league’s brand of football will translate more effectively overseas than the NFL’s more “traditional” game. After all, horny, dateless guys the world over tend to think the same way- with the wrong head.
