Memo to Conservatives: You are free to your morality. You are not free to force your morality on others.

(Via mi compadre, Erin O’Brien. Buy her book, The Irish Hungarian Guide to the Domestic Arts. The girl can write.)

I think most of us would probably agree that we hope for a world in which abortion is rare. I suppose the difference between those of us who believe in a woman’s right to control her own body and those of you who are anti-choice is that we hope for a world in which abortion is safe, legal, are rare. Y’all just want to force your narrow morality on women- regardless of the consequences- who may, or may not, happen to think differently. Simply put, the choice isn’t yours, and you don’t get to hold your intolerant flavor of morality above all others.

Roe v. Wade is settled law. This means you don’t get to decide for women what they can or cannot do in terms of their reproductive functions. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that no woman gets pregnant so she could have an abortion. I also don’t think it’s a stretch to say that your narrow, judgmental intolerance trumps neither Roe v. Wade or an individual woman’s right to choose. If you oppose abortion, then don’t have one. You have no right- zip, zero, nada, none- to assume that your morality is superior and thus deserving of being forcibly applied to all women. You simply don’t get to decide, you don’t get to control a woman’s LEGAL right to choose. Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare…but the choice and the decision is not yours.

Here’s another thing I’ve wondered about for awhile now: If y’all are as “pro-life” as you claim, how can it be that so many of you so fervently support the death penalty?
