You know it's going to be a long season when your team is out of contention by May Day

ANAHEIM, CALIF. - Angels pitcher Jered Weaver called it “an unbelievable moment for me and my family.” Manager Ron Gardenhire called it “a terrible night for Twins baseball.”…. The Twins have the worst record in the majors, at 6-18, and are on pace to finish with 121 losses.

Anyone who’s hung ‘round these parts for any length of time knows that I’m a huge Minnesota Twins fan. Up until last year, that had had been an easy undertaking. The Twins generally made the playoffs, where they were usually (and rudely) dismissed by the New York Yankees. Disappointment aside, at least my team was successful with one of the smallest payrolls in Major League Baseball.

Last season was the beginning of what appears to be Minnesota’s destiny to be an American League bottom-feeder with the likes of Kansas City. They lost 99 games, despite opening what’s arguably one of the best stadiums in baseball. This year looks even worse; after losing to the L.A. Angels 9-0 last night, the Twins are 6-18 so far this season. As if this season couldn’t travel any farther down the rabbit hole, the Angels’ Jared Weaver threw a no-hitter at Minnesota. He was a walk and a passed ball on a strikeout away from a perfect game. Twenty-four games in…and we can safely assume the Twins are playing out the string.

The Twins will be in Seattle this weekend, and Erin and I are planning (well, she’s indulging me) to head up to Safeco Field for my annual Twins pilgrimage. The Mariners are an improved team this year; thankfully, except for pitching, defense, and hitting, the Twins are still a better team.

I wonder if Pedro Cerrano has any chicken bones left??
