Today in Right Wing Reality

A conservative government is an organized hypocrisy.

  • Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield (1804-1881)

If you follow this line of thinking, then no Christian in good conscience can stake any claim to critical thought. One of the things that aggravates me about Far-Right Christian zealots is their presumption that their beliefs provide them the God-given right to determine what a “good” Christian can do, say, or think.

To say that no “real,” or “true” Christian could in good conscience vote for Barack Obama is on its face absurd, but it also attempts to deny Christians the right to think for themselves and make their own decisions. Belonging to any theological or philosophical orientation shouldn’t require absolute, slavish devotion in terms of thought and deed…and yet there are those like Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber and his boss Mat Staver who see nothing wrong with pushing such absolutism.

Sounds like it might be time for someone to chase the moneychangers out of the temple again….

So that would mean that it’s accurate to compare Christianity to “Bigotry Pride” or “Intolerance Pride?” To be fair, I understand that the majority of Christian are caring, compassionate, God-fearing folks who sincerely endeavor to lead a Christ-like life. Unfortunately, those aren’t the folks making themselves heard these days. The people who are making noise are the unreconstructed bigots and haters like the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins, who won’t be happy until “Gay Pride” is forcibly transformed into “Gay Shame.”

So, Tony…why not “Christian Bigotry and Intolerance Month?”

So, the GLBT community is actually home to an al-Qaeda sleeper cell? You might not have realized this, but unbeknownst to most good, God-fearing, heterosexual Christian American patriots, Teh Gayz are behind an insidious plot to undermine national security. Something about making America more fabulous….

Because Floriduh won’t be safe until only God-fearing, heterosexual, White Christian Patriots are allowed to vote. The Department of Justice has requested/demanded that Floriduh stop purging voters from their rolls. That this purge coincidentally seems to be removing the poor and minorities, who tend to lean overwhelmingly Democratic, from Floriduh’s voter rolls seems purely coincidental. Republican Gov. Rick Scott, who appears to believe in democracy only insofar as it can be used to buttress his personal agenda (enriching himself), has vowed to defy DOJ and continue purging voters. His obstreperousness may be just so much bluster, though, seeing as how Floriduh’s 67 county clerks have said they won’t purge voters prior to the November election.

Hey, if God had meant for you to be able to vote, you would have been born Republican, capice??

What good is democracy if it’s not for sale? It will be a sad day when a billionaire can’t grab his checkbook and write a check large enough to ensure that government will remain a vehicle for advancing his own narrow interests.

When democracy can be hijacked by the checkbook of a few ultra-Conservative, self-absorbed billionaires, can we really call what we have “democracy” anymore??

Cue the Right-wing lynch mobs in 4…3…2…1…. Republicans need not be viewed as reflexive, intolerant, hate-mongers who despise anyone who doesn’t think, love, live, and/or believe as they do. There are those, like former Florduh Gov. Jeb Bush, willing to speak up for tolerance and a live-and-let-live ethic. In Bush’s case, he’s willing to jump off the GOP hate wagon and state that loving same-sex couple should be heralded as role models for all Americans. A Republican willing to speak out against the prevailing propaganda? I know; I’m shocked as well.

Of course, Bush will be crucified by those on the Far Right aghast at Bush’s presumptuousness in straying from the GOP’s talking points. He’ll be branded by those devoted to the propaganda as a traitor to the cause and anything but a “real” Conservative.

Somewhere in California, for President Ronald Reagan must be spinning furiously in his grave….
