There’s judgmental, there’s intolerant, there’s self-righteous…and then there’s Paul Carpenter, who manages to combine all three into a very unappealing package. Carpenter, who seems to be a self-appointed experts on lifestyle issues- especially those he disagrees with and/or is personally offended by, has taken on tattoos as the latest target of his moral outrage.
When I was a kid, we just chalked up this sort of thing to the “generation gap,” which was code for “We’re trying to piss off the oldsters…and it’s working!” Now that I’m part of the generation of “oldsters,” I can see where Carpenter’s coming from- a place of ignorance, intolerance, and self-superiority.
Yo, Paul…you don’t like tattoos? Then don’t get one. Problem solved, eh? You may not like them, but few lucid people will accept you as the self-appointed moral arbiter of All That’s Good And Right. How ‘bout just you just live and let live? So you hate tattoos? Good on you. That’s your opinion…and we all know what opinions are like, right? (If you don’t know the answer to that one, ask one of your friends…assuming you have any.)
How about letting other, lesser mortals make their own choices and then dealing with whatever consequences might follow? Capice??
‘KTHANXBYE!!!
