Michele Bachmann: Time for good people to smack her down...and they are

WASHINGTON — Forty-two religious and secular organizations united on Thursday in condemning conservative lawmakers’ allegations that Muslim-American individuals connected to the U.S. government may be trying to spread the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood. They directed their criticisms at Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Trent Franks (R-Ariz.), Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), Thomas Rooney (R-Fla.) and Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.), who recently wrote to various government agencies and asked them to investigate the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood. In their letters, the lawmakers targeted top State Department official Huma Abedin and several advisers to the Department of Homeland Security.

On Thursday, I wrote a post wondering why good and decent Christians weren’t speaking out against Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), a self-professed “Christian” for whom love is hate and tolerance is condemnation. Bachmann seems to see no contradiction to hold herself above Muslims, whom she views as uniformly and unalterably hating America and actively working to destroy. She’s so convinced that all Muslims wish to destroy Our Way of Life © that she’s accused Huma Abedin of being a Muslim Brotherhood plant. Evidently being married to a Jew (Anthony Weiner) and working for a Secretary of State (Hillary Clinton) isn’t sufficient to convince Bachmann that Abedin is an American…who just happens to also be Muslim.

You’d think that I’d have learned by now that sometimes, if you can hold out just a wee bit longer, you might just get your wish.

In this day and age, when so many hypocritical, intolerant “Christians” see their hatred and vitriol go unchallenged, it’s easy to think that zealots like Bachmann and her ilk don’t get any pushback…and normally they don’t. In this case, though, 41 religious and secular groups encompassing a wide ideological and theological spectrum, have publicly condemned Bachmann and her gang of idiot children for their hatred, thoughtless character assassination, and fear-mongering.

Evil can only triumph when good people remain silent…so perhaps there’s hope for us after all. Perhaps we really can hope that America can once again be a civil, respectful society where zealots and self-righteous ninnies are laughingstocks.

Perhaps…but I’m not going to be holding my breath in anticipation.
