Now that health care reform is constitutional, will Liberals round up and kill my family?

Well, 9/11 officially became the new Hitler this week as Republican Congressman Mike Pence likened the Supreme Court ruling on “Obamacare” to the attacks that killed 2,996 people and injured more than 6,000. I guess at least, if that happens again, that’ll be 6,000 people that will now have health insurance in case they happen to be in another building that A PLANE CRASHES INTO!

I know; if you happen to inhabit the Right side of the political spectrum and you can’t use Adolf Hitler to support your rage over things not going your way, there’s always 9.11. When it comes to the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, you might even be able to use BOTH!!! ‘Cuz there ain’t nothin’ that makes a Conservative feel more righteous than being able to use Adolf Hitler or 9.11 (or BOTH!) to justify their sour grapes.

(And if that doesn’t work, you can always attack Chief Justice John Roberts for being high on bath salts…or epilepsy medication.)

Don’t get me wrong; I hate losing as much as the next guy, and it’s not like it’s easy watching Democrats in Congress allowing Republicans to beat them up AND take their lunch money. Still, y’all didn’t get the decision you wanted. You don’t get to turn back the clock. You don’t get to turn America into a place where access to health care is proportional to the size of your wallet. And you don’t get to turn America into a place where people will be allowed to die for lack of money to pay for treatment.

Not yet, at least.

Just because a couple people on the Supreme Court declare something to be ‘constitutional’ does not make it so. The whole thing remains unconstitutional.

Perhaps the things that Conservatives need to learn is that the simple fact that they believe something doesn’t ipso facto make it so. There actually are other (equally valid) points of view out there, and being on the Right doesn’t necessarily and automatically make you right. When you whine about losing and act as if your view of the world is the One, True, and Only Faith, all you do is look silly. Invoking Hitler or 9.11 to justify your impotent rage only makes you look immature and as if you’ve stopped taking your medication.

The mere fact of being a Conservative doesn’t connote upon one the ability to decide what is “constitutional” and what isn’t. And it isn’t “judicial activism” when Liberal justices do it and “measured jurisprudence” when Conservative justices do it. You don’t get to claim the mantle of Righteousness for yourself simply because you can’t accept the fact that there are viewpoints out there other than your own. Some Americans don’t want to see America remain a place where some can die from a treatable illness simply for lack of funds. Some Americans don’t accept the Conservative belief that healthcare, like any other aspect of American life, is and should be available to those who can pay for it.

Hey, if we can simultaneously fight two wars halfway around the world, shouldn’t we be able to figure out how to guarantee each and every American a basic level of healthcare? The fact that you happen to have a larger bank account shouldn’t translate to you being more worthy of health care.

Here’s an novel idea for Conservatives: While y’all are working yourselves into a righteous lather, how about figuring out how to make America a better place? How about stopping figuring out ways to obstruct progress because all you really care about is making the President look bad? Don’t you think it’s about time you stop placing your own self-interest before that of the country and those you were elected to represent?

Just a thought.

Oh, and another thing; you don’t get to violate the law simply because you disagree with the law. There’s a place for people who do that. It’s called PRISON.

And one last thing: You don’t get to claim that John Roberts voted to uphold ACA because he was addled by his epilepsy medication. Surely, you must realize how thoroughly and completely pathetic that makes you look. Right??
