Romney/Ryan 2012: Because America should leave the lying to the professionals (#6)

“The Big Lie” is a propaganda technique that kids hear about in school. If you learn what Nazis and Communists did, if you read Orwell’s “1984,” you’re supposed to be inoculated against pervasive, outrageous falsehoods. That’s why Jefferson and Franklin counted on public education and public libraries. It’s also why the First Amendment protects the fourth estate; it shields muckrakers, investigative journalists, critics and gadflies from censorship. But today the biggest threat to democracy isn’t government intimidation of the press. It’s boredom — a consequence of the domination of political communication by paid media, the subordination of news to entertainment, the imperative to monetize audience attention, the fear that information and amusement are locked in a zero sum game.

Chronicling Mitt’s Mendacity, Vol. XXXV: When the lies become bigger, more frequent, and…well, dumber with the passage of time, you must be Mitt Romney.

Ryan’s latest whopper: Oops, I ‘overlooked’ 20% of my income: Sounds like someone was afraid he was about to be outed for lying…again. How can you tell when Paul Ryan’s telling the truth? I have no idea.

The Lies People Are Willing to Accept From VP Nominee Paul Ryan: When you afford more credibility to lies told by Republicans that can be and have been easily debunked, this is what you get. Congratulations, America.

Pants On Fire Mitt Romney tells 616 Lies in 33 Weeks: Yep, 616 verifiable, easy to check lies…and they just keep on coming.

Why Do Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan Tell Small, Dumb Lies?: Uh…because they think they’re dealing with small, dumb people??

Romney’s Lies and Liars: When you’re dedicated only to your own self-interest and your only truth is what you think will get you to where you to the White House, you must be Mitt Romney.

Romney/Ryan and the Lullaby of Lying: When you’re willing to believe something because you want it to be true rather than thinking about whether it actually IS true, you’re a Republican and a Romney supporter.

4 Pinocchios for a truncated, 14-year-old Obama clip: You’e certainly free to your own opinion…but you don’t get to invent your own truth.

But when you poke at what the GOP is actually serving, you realize that this collapsed soufflĂ© displays a certain disconnection from reality. The Republican right is stuck with a cult-like devotion to a big lie that has been disproved again and again…. The myth of Job Creationism goes like this: Ronald Reagan’s tax cuts created an economic miracle in the 1980s that lasted through the Clinton years and would have worked in the Bush era except Clinton had ruined everything by enjoying his Reagan windfall too much. Both Reagan and George W. Bush’s tax cuts left us - to paraphrase George H.W. Bush — in deep voodoo. After the Republicans manufactured these massive debts and were then ousted by voters, they decided the bills must be paid immediately with cuts to government services and benefits. Why? Because deficits start to matter as soon as Democrats take office.

The Big Lie: Job Creationism: “We understand how the economy works and thus we know how jobs are created!” Despite the fact that this RIght-wing canard has been proven time and time again to be a lie, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan continue to use it. If you repeat it often enough….

Five Lies in Romney’s War on the “47 Percent”: Mitt Romney really does lies faster than the media can fact-check him…if they were so inclined.

8 Falsehoods, Lies and Misstatements From Romney Fundraising Video: Romney/Ryan 2012: Where truth, facts, and integrity go to die.

What constitutes an ‘opportunity’: Evidently, the Romney/Ryan campaign won’t let a little thing like “historical accuracy” get in the way of impugning the President for something he’s never done.

Mitt’s Most Shameless Lie: It’s difficult to pick just one, but demagoguing Medicare is a good choice.

Paul Ryan and listening comprehension: Splitting rhetorical hairs is a damned poor way to convince Americans that you’re fit to lead.

The media coverage of Paul Ryan’s speech: 15 euphemisms for ‘lying’: Wouldn’t it be easier to admit that Ryan’s lying? Why wear out your thesaurus when the most obvious noun is right in front of your face?
