Romney/Ryan 2012: Because sometimes fantasy is all you have

Irony (n.): When victory in a debate on facts and a vision for America’s future is awarded to the candidate most willing to lie and mislead the public about his real position on the issues.

It would be difficult to understate the Romney/Ryan campaign’s commitment to mendacity and lack of interest in the truth. The campaign has devolved into a sideshow in which Mitt Romney will say something completely at odds with previous statements or positions, his handlers walk it back, and Paul Ryan tries to act as if nothing’s amiss while spinning his own lies. A reasonable person would have to ask if Romney, Ryan, and their surrogates care at all about the truth, or if winning at any and all costs means that the ends justifies the means. If lies must be told, if voters must be misled, if the media must be buried in mendacious bullshit…then so be it. They can apologize and take care of damage control after November 6th, because until then the ONLY thing that matters is winning.

With Ryan taking part in tonight’s Vice-Presidential debate, this seems a good time to remind America what he’s all about, courtesy of ThinkProgress:

  1. Romney and Ryan would eliminate health care for 31 million people who are poor or disabled.

  2. Ryan considers Social Security a “Ponzi Scheme.”

  3. 62% of Ryan’s budget cuts come from programs that benefit low-income Americans.

  4. Ryan voted for future defense cuts he now blames on Obama.

  5. Ryan and Romney cannot cut taxes across the board by 20% and lower the deficit because it’s mathematically impossible.

  6. Ryan voted to increase the debt ceiling by $4 trillion under Bush.

  7. Ryan wants to kick 1 million students off of Pell Grants.

  8. Ryan’s budget included the same $716 billion in Medicare savings included in Obamacare.

  9. Ryan supported economic stimulus under Bush.

  10. Ryan used to supports a key aspect of Obamacare.

  11. Ryan opposes abortion access for rape victims.

  12. Ryan supports a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage.

This is the man who would be a heartbeat away from the Presidency if he and Mitt Romney win on November 6th

Are the American Sheeple so malleable and inattentive that they can be propagandized into voting against their interests and for a Republican ticket that wouldn’t recognize the truth if it showed up with a pair of kneepads and a tube of AstroGlide?

As if I need to answer that.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
