This week in Jesus: Because my God is a mean-spirited, ill-tempered misogynist

During the Republican primary, Bryan Fischer made a bit of news when he suggested that women should not be serving in positions of authority within the church or society at large, saying that God would only allow a woman (in this case, Rep. Michele Bachmann) to lead the nation in a desperate situation. Fischer returned to the discussion of the proper role of women in society on his radio program today where he made it quite clear that he believes that “biblical lines of authority” ought to be enforced at home, in the church, and in society and that anybody who has a problem with that can take it up with Jesus. Fischer went on to reiterate that “masculine leadership in society over the nation” is “God’s basic plan for today” and “political leadership ought to be … reserved for the hands of males” and the fact that he is probably going to be attacked for saying so is just evidence that we can’t have a reasonable discussion about this issue….

Wilson: Obama is Leading a ‘War on Christian People’: American Family Association general manager Buster Wilson somehow fails to understand that not sharing his narrow religious beliefs does not make one a heretic worthy of destruction.

Ralph Reed, lost in translation: Calling yourself a “Christian” doesn’t give you license to use Jesus as cover for your cheating, financial shenanigans, and epic mendacity.

Fischer: ‘Political Leadership Ought to be Reserved for the Hands of Males’: Who knew that God was such an unreconstructed and unrepentant misogynist? And is it any surprise that Bryan Fischer would presume to be his mouthpiece?

Anti-Gay Pastor Vid Goes Viral: It’s what Jesus would have done. Truly.

Oral Sex, Yoga, and God’s Eternal Wrath: Inside the New Hipster Megachurch That Tells Modern Women to Submit: Some guys will do anything to get a woman on her knees….

Indiana’s Mourdock: rape pregnancies ‘something God intended’: Since when does calling yourself a “Christian” allow you to be a misogynist and a total dick?

Kiss my ass; this is a holy site.

God Responds to Mourdock Comment: He isn’t happy. Quelle surprise, non?

Texas Judge, Siding With Cheerleaders, Allows Bible Verses on Banners at School Games: Being a Christian doesn’t mean you ipso facto have the inalienable right to force your beliefs on everyone. And then there’s that whole separation of Church and State thing….

Ryan’s Prescription for the Poor: End Anti-Poverty Programs: Evidently, Ryan’s Catholicism doesn’t recognize that Jesus cared for the poor.

Jeffress: ‘Cult’ Member Romney Still Better than Obama, who has his ‘Fist in the Face of God’: Helluva choice, eh? The cult member of the Black guy??

Lawsuit claims evangelical church hid abuse claims: Wait for it…someone claiming it was God’s will in 4…3…2….

Republicans’ Shocking Positions on Rape and Pregnancy Aren’t Outliers — They’re Central to the GOP Agenda: Republicans are clearly banking on claiming the imprimatur of the Almighty on this “issue,” but this battle in the war on women has nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Plain and simple, it’s about political power.
