Today's coffee-spew moment: Women driving = rise in homosexuality and no more virgins

Allowing women to drive in Saudi Arabia would mean no more virgins and an increase in homosexuality, according to academics at Saudi Arabia’s highest religious council, Majlis al-Ifta’ al-A’ala, it has been reported in the Telegraph. More pornography would be used if women were allowed on the roads and rates of prostitution and divorce would alo rise, the report stated. Produced in conjunction with Kamal Subhi, a former professor at the King Fahd University, the study into repealing the ban predicted that there would be no more virgins left in the Arab kingdom in 10 years….Professor Subhi described sitting in a coffee shop in an unnamed Arab state where “all the women were looking at me”…. “One made a gesture that made it clear that she was available,” he said. “This is what happens when women are allowed to drive.”

Here in America, women are afforded equal rights; at least that’s how the argument goes. There’s the whole issue of women making $.77 for every dollar earned by a man, and the corporate glass ceiling, and women being banned from combat, and…. OK, so maybe things aren’ quite as equal as we males like to think they are, but there’s one thing we can pat ourselves on the back about.

At least we’re not Saudi Arabia, which seems to be struggling with the idea of emerging from the 11th century.

Men in America have, with a few notable exception, become conversant with the concept that women aren’t property and aren’t subject to the whims and control of men. Saudi men, unfortunately, seem perfectably comfortable using their religion as a means for ensuring the distaff portion of their populace serves the interests of those fortunate enough to be born with a penis. Women are discouraged from pursuing an education, working, or doing anything that doesn’t involved raising families and catering to men.

The report was produced for the country’s legislative assembly, the Shura Council. However this institution has no power as Saudi Arabia is ruled by a monarchy with absolute power.

The state’s controversial ban on female drivers last came under attack in September after Shaima Jastaniya was sentenced to 10 lashes just days after Saudi King Abdullah granted women the right to vote. The punishment was overturned after international and domestic pressure.

Saudi Arabia is currently considering a law for women to cover up their eyes if they are deemed too “tempting.”

There’s a growing reluctance among Saudi women to accept being treated as property. At no small risk to themselves, a few women have flouted the ban on driving. While Saudi royalty tries to straddle the fence- mollifying religious conservatives while allowing women greater freedom- and women are pushing the envelope, there are those determined to maintain the status quo and keep women in their place. The intellectually comical nature of a study equating women driving with a rise in homosexuality, an increase in pornography usage, and a decrease in the number of virgins in the Kingdom defies rational understanding, but there you have it. I suppose this is what happens when you’re so insecure in your masculinity that you fear what might happen if women are allowed the same freedoms you enjoy. Yeah, they might just decide they want nothing to do with you…and what kind of man can’t control his women, eh?

Here’s something else to think about: if you think a woman’s sexuality is a dangerous thing and therefore that woman must be camouflaged like a sack of Russet potatoes 24/7/365, you have no business enjoying the company of women. Ever.
