God’s word is true. I’ve come to understand that. All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the big bang theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell. And it’s lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior. You see, there are a lot of scientific data that I’ve found out as a scientist that actually show that this is really a young Earth. I don’t believe that the earth’s but about 9,000 years old. I believe it was created in six days as we know them. That’s what the Bible says.
I don’t begrudge Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) his religious beliefs. It’s a free country, and Broun is certainly free to believe in his own particular flavor of Christianity. I may disagree with him; I may despise what he stands for…but freedom of religion being what it is, that’s as far as it goes. Besides, there’s plenty to be scare of when it comes to Paul Broun, who seems to view the separation of Church and State as a mere inconvenience that real Christian patriots aren’t subject to.
What scares the Hell out of me and gives me pause when it comes to the future of America are realities like this:
Paul Broun is on the House Science Committee
Yes, Broun’s religious beliefs are his own, and he’s certainly free to believe as he sees fit. The problem comes in when someone so willing to interject his religious views into policymaking is on the House Science Committee. Broun’s personal religious beliefs stand in stark contrast and opposition to empirical science. Should a man who believes the Earth is only 9000 years old be in a position to shape the federal government’s science policy as we try to remain competitive in the 21st century? Broun is hardly the only example of how the Rabid Right’s self-created reality is turning this country into an idiocracy that before long will, at least intellectually, resemble a Third World country.
WE DESERVE BETTER.
