One of the things this Presidential election is sorely lacking is humor. Mitt Romney has the charm, charisma, and comic timing of a wooden Indian, and Barack Obama has been the picture of studied caution. Not much there in the way of comic potential…though Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have generally had their way, as always. I’m about to change that for you.
Michael Moore’s latest video for MoveOn.org has a strong message behind it, but it’s the funniest thing I’ve seen since the last GOP debate. The sad thing is that the message is so obvious and commonsensical, yet so many Americans seem not to care enough to take the time to learn and understand. There’s no discernible reason why this election shouldn’t be an absolute blowout. That it’s as close as it seems to be should be taken as proof of how malleable and easily propagandized the American Sheeple are. Almost half the population appears willing to overlook the reality that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are shameless liars who should be in the Mendacity Hall of Fame Shame. Yes, Virginia; American democracy would seem to have reached its nadir. It’s difficult to believe that so many could be so ill-informed and tolerant of craven, open, and cynical dishonesty, but we may well have realized the dawning of our new idiocracy. It’s no longer about the truth; it’s about what you can convince the Sheeple is the truth.
These folks are here to offer up a metaphorical slap upside our collective head. Damn, but I wish they were my grandparents….
