We now return you to your regularly-scheduled ridiculousness

“Mr. Trump — I will write you a check for $1 million from Colbert Super PAC, you know I’ve got it, to the charity of your choice — anything, Save the Children, feed the children, put the children on child Apprentice, whatever — one million actual dollars if you will let me dip my balls in your mouth…. [N]othing would make America happier than something going into your mouth instead of coming out.”

So here we are. Finally. Wednesday, November 7th. The smoldering wreckage of Indecision 2012 is thankfully, mercifully, and blissfully in our collective rear-view mirror.

As with any election, there awee victories, losses, and “WTF???” moments…and here we are, left to sort the what from the chaff. As per usual there’s plenty of each. Barack Obama won, marijuana legalization lost in Oregon but won in other, marriage equality appears to have scored significant victories, Allen West lost (a spot at Fox News no doubt awaits him), and Michelle Bachmann won. Change the names and issues, and it’s much like the aftermath of any Election Night.

Capitol Hill appears to be largely unchanged; the House is Republican-majority and the Senate remains in the hands of Democrats. What this portends for the next four years in Washington remains to be seen, but my guess is more of the same, which no reasonable person would define as a good thing.

I’d like to think that Americans can and will coalesce around the results of this election and resolve to move forward together. Then again, I’m a realist who recognizes that the divisive forces in this country will likely redouble their efforts to divide and conquer. For some, it’s still not about America; it’s about political power and the reality that all’s fair in love, war, and politics.

America has spoken. I’m not certain what we said, but I’m guessing the partisan sniping will increase and the shrill, unhinged voices on the Right will become even more unbelievably childish and divisive. For Fox News, the Drudge Report, and World Net Daily shall always be among us.

Speaking for myself, I can’t wait to never hear from Mitt Romney again. I just wish I could say the same for Paul Ryan.
