Today on "Great Moments In Schadenfreude"....

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

John Schnatter (R- Papa John’s)

Turns out nobody wants a side of politics with their pizza. The opinion of Papa John’s among recent casual diners dropped precipitously after CEO John Schnatter’s public comments about Obamacare, according to a new study from YouGov BrandIndex, which researches brand perception for marketing directors, brand managers and PR reps. The site conducts thousands of interviews a day, providing real-time info that shows trends and responses to different marketing techniques or in this case, public gaffes. The national pizza chain’s YouGov BrandIndex Buzz score — which the site uses as an indication of brand favorability — dropped to four at the end of November, down from 32 on election day.

Call me a terrible excuse for a human being if you must, but there are few things I enjoy more than seeing Conservative blowhards washing up on the rocky shore of Reality Bay. It’s hard to know where to begin when it comes to Right-wing crybabies, but John Schnatter, CEO of Papa John’s, is at the top of my list today.

After announcing that the “forced” imposition of Obamacare would adversely impact his pizza chain’s profitability and that Obamacare would add something like 14 cents to the cost of each pizza, America evidently didn’t react well. Instead of making the point he thought he was- that Obamacare would in his opinion be a drag on job creation and profitability- Schnatter came off as a sore loser and a crybaby looking to lash out.

Schnatter, who lives in a home with its own golf course, created his own PR nightmare. He might have thought he was sparking a debate on how Obamacare would be a millstone around the neck of the business community. Unfortunately for Schnatter, he emerged from the fray looking like a clueless, out of touch, mean-spirited CEO determined to put the screws to his employees. Once Papa John’s bottom line began taking on water, Schnatter was forced to walk his comments back, though it appears that unringing that bell may not be as simple and straightforward as he might have hoped.

Yeah, I know; I’m a terrible human being…but I still love watching Schnatter trying to shut down his self-pity party and scramble to walk his comments back. Turns out that it’s about as easy as stuffing tootpaste back into its tube.

There are a couple things that Schnatter might do well to keep in mind. First, his candidate lost…and elections have consequences (see Bush, George W.). Second, Americans overwhelmingly support Obamacare once they understand what it is and what it does. The American Sheeple have spoken. Schnatter can either get on the bus…or get run over by it.

America can always find somewhere else to buy bad delivery pizza.
