ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Just before 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, the burglar alarm went off at the residence at 1563 Georgia Avenue.
27-year-old Jimmy Jones Junior, a tenant at the residence, got his gun, thinking there was a burglar inside.
He spotted a dark figure moving, fired one shot which struck the individual in the elbow. Turns out, it was his roommate, 27-year-old Gene Anthony.
Family members who did not want to go on camera say that Anthony is in critical condition at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
“I guess he was being precautious you know, someone trying to break into the house, he would defend himself,” says Jones’ father, Jimmy Jones, Sr.
Jones was taken to the police department for further questioning and while officials say the case is still under investigation, no charges are expected to be filed against Jones.
