CORPUS CHRISTI —- A local man said he was shot by a burglar in his home on Monday. After some investigating Corpus Christi Police say they don’t believe him. Officers believe he shot himself and made up the whole story.
Nick Kelley, 24, told police he came home to find a man in a ski mask holding his gun. He says the man got in through the front door that was left unlocked by his wife. He says the intruder shot him once in the right shoulder and then took off. Police are now saying the evidence isn’t adding up.
Kelley did suffer a gun shot wound and just yesterday re-told the entire version of his story for our reporter about what he claims happened.
“I dropped down to my knees and he dropped the gun, so I went for the gun and I layed down and I shot around my bed then I stood up and shot him again, I guess I missed I kind of sucked at shooting I guess that time,” Kelley said.
Police say even though there is a hole in his shoulder, there are a few holes in his story. Officers say Kelley was brought to the police station for additional questioning and during the interview detectives discovered that his gun shot wound was self-inflicted.
Kelley explained how the bullet penetrated his skin but says it wasn’t that serious.
“It went through here I guess it was close because it got gun powder burn and then it went straight back there, it was just a flesh wound it was nothing like serious serious,” Kelley said.
Now police say that story was made up. Officials won’t say what made them doubt Kelley’s story but he did initially tell investigators no one was home when the guy broke into his house. However, he told 6 News he was on his way home to patch things up with his wife, making it sound like she was at home at the time.
