Consider this for a moment: Sen. Ashley Judd. Hard not to like that sound of that, eh?

Simple human nature may best explain why the prospect of actress Ashley Judd disrupting the otherwise inevitable reelection of U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has provoked the ire of so much of Kentucky’s political chattering class. Consultants whom Judd hasn’t consulted call her potential bid a “catastrophe” and a “fantasy.” Political wags who haven’t been granted an audience term her record exploitable as “too liberal for Kentucky.” Big donors whom she hasn’t called complain about not being wooed.

It’s no secret that Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is one of the most disturbingly partisan, dishonest, and venal men in Washington. How’s he managed to convince the people of Kentucky to regularly, almost relexively, return him to the Senate defies rational understanding. He’s lied, dissembled, and done everything within his power to undermine the President. He’s one of the most corrupt Senators on Capitol Hill; along with his wife, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, he’s amassed a fortune by trading on his power and influence. Evidently, that’s the sort of corrupt venality Kentuckians respect.

Hey, at least he ain’t no Librul….

With that as background, a trained chimp sitting in McConnell’s Senate seat would be an improvement. Thankfully, it may not come to that. Until now, Democrats in Kentucky haven’t been able to put up much in the way of opposition to McConnell’s re-election. It now appears that there is more than a passing chance that Ashley Judd will challenge the Senate’s most notable Turtle-American.

Oh, pleasepleaseplease….

And why not? She intelligent, articulate, and loves the Commonwealth. Yes, she’s a movie star, which will be used against her (prepared to be treated to an avalanche of scantily-clad Judd clips from some of her movies)…if for no other reason that Republicans and teabaggers can’t compete with her on the issues. Their desperation can be judged by the fierceness of the caterwauling emanating from the Far Right. Judd hasn’t even announced her candidacy, and the Far Right is in full-on panic mode over the prospect. Unable to knock down on policy, they’ve made it personal, which should give you an idea of just how pathetic the Far Right is and how low they’re willing to go. They’ll pillory Judd as just another member of the “Liberal Hollywood Elite,” because cheap, personal, and meaningless insults are about all they’ve got on her.

Stay tuned…this could be fun.
