I’ve heard the rumblings- “Jack, how come you never write anything about the Iranian Penal Code?” I know; you’d think I’d be all over anything that would allow me to credibly use the word “penile” “penal.” The truth is that I have little interest in glorifying a theocracy that’s as much about Islam as Timothy McVeigh was about nonviolence. That said, there’s an argument to be made for laying bare the horror that is the process of stoning a person convicted of adultery.
This process is applicable to both men and women convicted of adultery, though traditionally women have been viewed as temptresses who lead men to stray from their wives.
Canada’s National Post provides a graphic explanation of how the stoning of a women is conducted under the Iranian Penal Code…if you really need to understand how it works.
Remember, this is less about Islam that it is the Iranian government’s attempt to control its people. The more they can keep them focused on “threats” to their religion and morality, the less they attention they’ll be paying to their lack of freedom.
