As a Member of the House of Representatives for the last few years, I have fought tooth-and-nail against President Obama’s agenda at every turn. I was the first Member of Congress to call him a socialist who embraces Marxist-Leninist policies like government control of health care and redistribution of wealth…. On the Senate side, I’m a staunch ally of now retired Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina — and of course, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky….
Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) is quite possibly the single most impolite, anti-intellectual, and just plain mean Republican in the House outside of the Texas delegation. How many others would think that calling the President a “a socialist who embraces Marxist-Leninist policies” would be something to celebrate? I get that Broun disagrees with the President on…well, pretty much everything. That’s his prerogative in a free country. What he doesn’t have the right to do is to demean the President by aiming cheap personal insults at him. Then again, the Tea Party respects nothing and no one who doesn’t march in absolute ideological lockstep with them. To the Tea Party, disagreement with their narrow agenda is evidence that one is worthy only of destruction by any means necessary. If it means making it personal…hey, they brought it on themselves by having he temerity to think for themselves.
Now Broun is running for a Senate seat from Georgia, and he’s portraying his cheap, mean-spirited personal insults directed at the President as something bordering on heroic…and he’s trying to raise money of his boorishness.
Stay classy, eh?
When a cretin and moral reprobate like Broun is able to attract significant political support and money, there’s really only one conclusion to be drawn:
Welcome to our new idiocracy.
