VADER, Wash. (KOIN) — A man and his 12 year-old son were injured when a gun discharged as the owner was trying to remove the slide from his pistol Friday afternoon.
Chief Deputy Stacy Brown with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office told KOIN 6 News that investigators believe the slide on a Ruger .40 caliber pistol was incorrectly assembled.
Investigators believe that while trying to remove the slide the weapon discharged. The bullet traveled through the man’s hand and into a wall where shrapnel from the shot hit his son in the arm and abdomen.
The unidentified man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with injuries described as non-life threatening in nature.
Brown said that no charges are expected in the case.
