MILLVILLE, Calif. - The Shasta County Sheriff’s office has identified the man who told deputies he accidentally shot a 16-year-old boy.

It happened Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in the 10000 Block of Beaver Road in Millville.

Deputies responded to a report of a juvenile gun shot victim. They found the victim lying on the floor being treated by medical personnel.

Investigators said Danny Eugene Gray, 44 of Millville, had made the 911 call. Gray told deputies he was showing the 16-year-old victim how to handle and fire his Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Gray said during one of the demonstrations he accidentally shot the teenager in the abdomen. Gray said he believed the firearm was unloaded at the time of the shooting.

KRCR News Channel 7 spoke to Gray on Friday when he said that he was very shaken up.

He said he was inside the house with the victim and another 16-year-old boy and he was teaching them a few things.

He said he feels terrible and that this is a tragic accident.

The victim was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. During surgery the bullet was located lodged in the juvenile’s spine.
