LUMBERTON - A 16-year-old Shannon boy was killed Thursday when a shotgun he was playing with accidentally discharged, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
It happened about 9:30 p.m. at the teen’s home on McQueen Road, said Randall Graham, Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
The boy and his 14-year-old brother, who were not identified, were playing with the gun, Graham said.
“The gun did not fire initially,” Graham said in an email. “However, as the two brothers continued to play with the shotgun, it fired and struck the 16-year-old in the chest area.”
An investigation is continuing, Graham said.
It was not known if charges will be filed.
