Repealing Obamacare: The war on the poor and the middle class continues unabated

When last I checked, Republicans in Congress had forced a vote on repealing Obamacare 39 times. If you believe as I do that the definition of insanity is repeating the same actions while expecting different results, you’re going to LOVE Congressional Republicans. That’s just the obvious frontal assault, though. Even more sinister are the ongoing efforts to craft a strategy to portray Obamacare as a tax. That may not mean much to those of not schooled in the arcane byzantine legislative machinations extant on Capitol Hill, but it could open a door that might allow Republicans to kill Obamacare.

It’s clearly no longer about what’s best for the country. This has long since become the political equivalent of a pissing contest. Republicans know that Obamacare poses a real threat to their well-heeled constituency in the health care industry. They’re committed to protecting our ridiculously inefficient and often immoral health care system, because many of those who write large checks to GOP causes are CEOs of companies who make obscene profits. What happens to Americans who don’t write those large checks seems of no concern to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the rest of the Republicans on Capitol Hill.

Poll after poll has shown that, once Americans are educated about what Obamacare is and what it actually will do for them, they support the reform is represents by a large majority. The problem now is that there are a large number of Republicans dedicated to bringing Obamacare down by any means necessary. They fear health care reform because it could adversely impact their CEO benefactors, and if they have their way, they may well be able to turn back the clock quietly and without attracting attention.

And if the can embarrass (and quite possibly neuter) the Black guy in the White House, so much the better.

So you STILL believe Republicans care about doing what’s best for America?
