Mr. LaPierre? You clown car is here.

MY NEW HERO

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy (D)

This guy is so out of whack, it’s unbelievable. 92% of the american people want universal background checks. I can’t get on a plane as the Governor of the state of Connecticut without somebody running a background check on me. Why should you be able to buy a gun? Or buy armor-piercing munitions? It doesn’t make any sense. He doesn’t make any sense. Thus my reference to the circus.[…] Bring it back to reality. Why are they against universal background checks when 92% of the American public is in favor of them? If they can’t answer that question — and they can’t, Candy — What this is about is the ability of the gun industry to sell as many guns to as many people as possible even if they’re deranged, even if they’re mentally ill, evening if they have a criminal background, they don’t care. They want to sell guns.

In an era when so many politicians still live in fear that the NRA may turn against them, it’s refreshing when one has the cojones to set the record straight. Gov. Malloy has a special responsibility, after all. The Sandy Hook massacre occurred in Connecticut, and his state has been setting the tone in the effort to legislate meaningful gun control. That the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre has been working overtime to flog the propaganda that gun control can’t, doesn’t, and won’t work is offensive to many…especially so to those who live in Connecticut. Ninety-two percent of Americans are in favor of universal background checks- more than the percentage who support eating French fries while having sex with Kate Upton- and yet LaPierre continues to insists that not only will background checks not work, but that most Americans oppose them.

LaPierre has gone to clownish lengths to ridicule Connecticut’s new law and support for gun control in general. Besides demonstrating that he’s a lousy liar and a miserable excuse for a human being, LaPierre has amply demonstrated that his primary role and responsibility is to shill for the gun industry. When you get right down to it, LaPierre doesn’t give a damn about human life and protecting Americans from gun violence. What he cares about is making sure that it’s as easy as possible for the gun industry to sell their products. What Americans do with those weapons is none of his concern.

I can’t imagine I’m the only one who thinks there really should be a reserved parking space in Hell with Wayne LaPierre’s name stenciled on it.

Kudos to Gov. Malloy for making the case that public safety trumps the financial interests of the gun industry. Would that more politicians could learn from his example.
