Today in Weapons Grade Stupid: I hate America. Why? Because Bryan Fischer says so.

(Apologies and full credit to Weapons Grade Stupid)

On his radio program yesterday, Bryan Fischer declared that liberals and Muslims are allies because they are united by “their distaste for America as founded and they share a contempt and a hatred for Christianity and for Christians.”…. “Secular fundamentalists hate this country as founded,” Fischer said, “They hate it. They’re trying to dismantle it. President Obama hates this country as founded. That’s why he’s trying to transform it and make it into some kind of socialist, Marxist utopia. Because he doesn’t like America, as it was founded. And Muslims don’t either. They hate America. They hate America as founded. They have the same dislike, and distaste, the same enmity toward America is it was founded that secular progressives do. And so that’s the bond that they share”

Those of you who grew up as I did- surrounded by Lutherans- no doubt remember “Jesus Loves Me.” With its simplistic lyrics and a grating, sing-song score, the song’s been sung by untold generations. It’s the sort of annoying musical ditty that sticks in my brain like model airplane cement. I’ve tried for years to forget it, but it’s come to remind me of an old Russian proverb: Try not to think about a bear and you’ll think of nothing but that bear.

Jesus loves me
This I know
For my Bible tells me so

Unfortunately, for “Christians” like Bryan Fischer, chief ideologist and executioner of the American Family Association, that’s about as far as the independent thinking process goes. I’m not certain Fischer is even aware that his Bible comes with a New Testament. His flavor of God is an angry, vengeful, mean-spirited SOB who delights in smiting those who fall short of his inflexible, iron-clad declarations. Fischer is more Westboro Baptist Church than caring, thoughtful, and compassionate. I doubt the word “forgiveness” resides in his vocabulary. Fischer really does seem to be one of the more truly miserable public figures out there. Has the man ever cracked a smile? Has he ever uttered anything that isn’t in one way or another a scalding condemnation of those he deems heretical and/or insufficient compliant to the dictates of his flavor of Almighty God?

I’m neither threatened nor intimidated by Fischer’s epic judgmental intolerance. Honestly, I LIKE being part of what pisses him off. I live to aggravate haters and bigots like Fischer; it makes me glad to be alive. I may not deliberately try to be an irritant under normal circumstances, but for a sorry inhuman meat sack like Fischer, I’d most assuredly make an exception.

The problem with Fischer’s vein-bulging, foaming-at-the-mouth rants is that none of them are based in fact. Like so many on the Rabid Religious Right, he’s all about denouncing Liberals as “apostates,” and Muslim-hating is so de riguer it’s barely newsworthy anymore. For a man who professes to revere the teaching of someone who preached love, acceptance, and tolerance, Fischer certainly has an amusing way of demonstrating his fealty.

Let’s call his lunacy what it is, shall we? Fischer’s a kook, a crackpot, a crazy White hyper-religious bigot who wouldn’t recognize the Gospel of Jesus Christ if the Lord himself handed him a flashlight and a roadmap. His opinion of anyone’s theological worthiness isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit. No one who identifies as a Liberal and/or a Muslim has any reason whatsoever to consider Fischer’s opinions to be anything but the hateful rambling of a miserable old man with a heart of stone.

If Bryan Fischer is a Christian, then I’m Jimmy Hoffa. Or Elvis Presley. Take your pick.
