Today in Weapons Grade Stupid: I LOVE watching Republicans eat their young

(Apologies and full credit to Weapons Grade Stupid)

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Chris Nogy

So what do we do? While I believe that we as a party are done in Arkansas after this, if there is ANY hope of our survival, it is going to take not being forgiving. Not only for past actions, but to show those who will come in the future that the cost of failure to do the thing they were elected to do will be significant. We need to be making a point of this failure from this moment on. We need to make a public statement from our groups that we no longer support those who turned on us…. We need to let those who will come in the future to represent us that we are serious. The 2nd amendment means nothing unless those in power believe you would have no problem simply walking up and shooting them if they got too far out of line and stopped responding as representatives. It seems that we are unable to muster that belief in any of our representatives on a state or federal level, but we have to have something, something costly, something that they will fear that we will use if they step out of line. If we can’t shoot them, we have to at least be firm in our threat to take immediate action against them politically, socially, and civically if they screw up on something this big. Personally, I think a gun is quicker and more merciful, but hey, we can’t.

Say what you will about Republicans (and Lord knows I’ve said plenty), you can’t accuse them of lacking commitment. Unfortunately, they’re committed to things that do them little if any good: intolerance, hyperbole, meanspiritedness, hyper-religiosity, ignorance, xenophobia…and sheer, unmedicated gun nuttery.

On one level, it’s extremely disturbing that Republicans anywhere are threatening to shoot those members of their party who have the temerity to think for themselves. Then again, it’s also pretty damned amusing. I certainly don’t agree with or condone it, but threatening to shoot your adversaries makes sense, even if in a perverse way. When you’re threatening to shoot your colleagues…? Well, that’s some Weapons Grade Stupid there, son. And that’s where Chris Nogy comes into the picture. A rational person would present his argument as to why Arkansas Republicans should uniformly oppose expanding Medicaid in the Nuclear Waste Dump State. Instead, Nogy took the lazy route, advocating that Republicans who dare to think independently should be shot.

Stay classy, eh?

I should probably just stop arguing that Republicans tend towards intellectual, moral, and ideological bankruptcy. Why expend the energy and brain cells when so many Republicans make the argument for me with their words and actions? When your expectation is that your colleagues will unthinkingly toe the party line (or what you think the party line should be) upon pain of death, you’ve pretty much ceded the moral high ground, don’tchathink?

Remember, Republican legislators are people too: mean, stupid, and intolerant people.
