You know you have too much time on your hands in Portland when....

A Portland inventor has done what many Oreo fans have been waiting for. He’s created a machine that separates crème from the cookie. Physicist and copywriter David Neevel says his dislike for the Oreo crème inspired him to create the Oreo Separator Machine (OSM)…. “I don’t have a catch phrase for my machine, but I guess if it did have one, it could be like ‘Let’s get that crème out of there’ or ‘This crème is no good. Get it off the cookies,’” said Neevel. A well-produced, somewhat satirical video was shot in the Mad Dog Garage in Portland, where Neevel said he spent about “0.04 years” building the contraption.

When the invention that brings your work to the attention of the public is an Oreo Separator Machine, you might just want to rethink your life’s work. Then again, it figures that this is part of a clever marketing campaign which, given that I’m devoting column inches to the OSM, would appear to be working.

I really don’t understand what someone might find objectionable about the Oreo crème. Without that, all you really have is a cracker. Boring, no??

I’d offer up some salient criticism about how so much time, energy, and commitment could be put to better use…but then I remember that I’m blogging. He who live in gas tank should probably stay away from cigarette lighters, no?

Then again, if a person can invent a machine that removes the Oreo crème from Oreo cookies, can world peace or a cure for cancer be far behind?
