You might as well say that 29% of Americans are too stupid for words

Three in 10 registered American voters believe an armed rebellion might be necessary in the next few years, according to the results of a staggering poll released Wednesday by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind. The survey, aimed at measuring public attitudes toward gun issues, found that 29 percent of Americans agree with the statement, “In the next few years, an armed revolution might be necessary in order to protect our liberties.” An additional five percent were unsure. Eighteen percent of Democrats said an armed revolt “might be necessary,” as compared to 27 percent of independents and 44 percent of Republicans. Support levels were similar among males and females but higher among less educated voters.

There are times when I find the depths of American ignorance and reaction to be truly disturbing. It’s safe to say that this is one of those times. When three in ten registered voters agrees that an armed revolution might be necessary in the next few years, a reasonable person would have to wonder how much Right-wing propaganda they’ve swallowed without question.

I realize that we live in a polarized world, and that there are those who rightly or wrongly live in abject fear of a tyrannical government…all while ignoring the fact that their votes are largely to blame for the state of our government- tyrannical or otherwise. This is a democracy- one man, one vote- which means that in order for government to effectively represent the will of the people, the people must pay attention and participate. Instead, we have some sort of mass psychosis that seems to have effected almost 1/3 of the American Sheeple…and the generalized attitude is something akin to “TO THE BARRICADES!!”

Are we really collectively so stupid that we’d convince ourselves that armed revolution might become necessary? And isn’t that really an indictment of our refusal to be bothered with the participatory nature of American democracy? Are that many people REALLY so terrified of The Black Guy in the White House ©? Is it any wonder I refer to us collectively as the American Sheeple? Are we REALLY Just. That. Stupid?

As if I need to answer that question….
