Today in Weapons Grade Stupid: Another great moment in DERP!!

Forty years ago, the United States Supreme Court sanctioned abortion on demand. And we wonder why our culture sees school shootings so often.

  • Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-ND)

There are at least a couple states I can think of that prohibit atheists from running for public office. Sadly, I think that law’s got it completely back asswards. The people we should be prohibiting from running for office are intolerant, brain-dead “Christian” zealots and dominionist theocrats like Cramer. Cramer isn’t the first card-carrying member of the God Squad to equate abortion with our culture of violence (or natural disasters, of the Green Bay Packers, or….), and he certainly won’t be the last; he’s merely the one on my radar today.

Any lucid American with even the barest shred of intellectual honesty and decency should be offended by Cramer’s absurd argument. The idea that there’s ANY connection between abortion and school shootings is every bit as offensive as it is brain-dead. All Cramer succeeds in doing by advancing this ridiculous assertion is to poor salt in the wounds of those who’ve lost love ones to senseless gun violence. Never mind that Roe v. Wade didn’t sanction “abortion on demand,” but then Cramer isn’t really all that concerned with the truth. When you’re an authoritarian dominionist theocrat, “facts” are whatever you need them to be in order to buttress your fear- and ignorance-based agenda. Ultimately, it really has nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus Christ; it’s about power and control. Christianity is merely the label the greedy and power-hungry attach to their evil intent and desire to impose their will and prejudices upon all Americans. That labels allows them to feel holy and divinely blessed as they work to oppress and marginalize those unfortunate enough to think, believe, live, and/or love differently.

I care about Kevin Cramer about as much as I care about Alex Jones…which is to say not a whit. If there is a place called Hell (not the one in Michigan), Cramer has a reserved parking spot waiting for him. What disturbs me is what Cramer represents- a headlong rush toward a system that could only be fairly described as an idiocracy, where facts don’t after and ignorance reigns supreme. What matters is seizing and maintaining political power and then using that power to create your very own dominionist theocracy. With mentally inert cretins like Cramer, Michele Bachmann, and Louie Gohmert to lead us into the future…is it any wonder I fear for the future of the Republic?

Hey, America; this is what happens when you can’t be bothered to pay attention.

WE DESERVE BETTER.
