If you can't win an argument on the facts, smug arrogance is ALWAYS a good fall-back option

THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD

(apologies to Keith Olbermann)

Dana Loesch

There are few things I find more objectionable than a contrarian Right-wing zealot with no evidence but plenty of vitriol and personal insults. Dana Loesch is all of those things; even worse, she’s not above throwing rhetorical bombs just to watch what happens. Like most Far Right pundits, Loesch has an often adversarial relationship with the truth. She knows how to make an emotionally charged argument, but she’s not so good at supporting such an argument- you know, with things like facts and empirical data. No, it’s SO much easier to fall back of smug arrogance and cheap, self-righteous insults.

It’s one thing to disagree with Piers Morgan, an unabashed and unapologetic gun-control advocate. It’s quite another to resort to cheap personal insults in a futile attempt to discredit him. Loesch can’t win on the facts, so grossly insulting Morgan is the only real option left to her. Smug arrogance makes for a damned poor argument…unless you work for Fox News Channel, where “facts” are whatever you need them to be to buttress your weak and otherwise unsupportable argument.

I get that Loesch is far more concerned with guns than the people whose lives are ruined- or worse, ended- by them. We live in a country in which roughly 30 people are killed by fire arms EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Since none of those killed have likely been people that Loesch knows or loves…well, where’s the fire?

What I fail to understand is how and why Loesch seems to get off on being deliberately callous and insulting, as if the loved ones left behind by the murdered are spoiled, whiny Liberals who should really just shut up and let the adults do the heavy lifting. That’s about as insensitive and heartless as it gets…not that Loesch is particularly concerned about or burdened by things like compassion and empathy.

Sometimes, the manner in which you call a person out for their perceived ignorance says more about your own than your intended target. It’s a lesson Dana Loesch could stand to learn. At least Piers Morgan can support his arguments. All Loesch has in her arsenal are petty personal insults and smug, self-righteous arrogance.

Pathetic doesn’t begin to do justice to her.
