It's not tyranny when you don't get your way; it's democracy

I never cease to marvel at your average teabagger’s [Ed. note: That’s the unfortunate name they originally chose…before they understood what “teabaging” means.) capacity for self-delusion. In their unfocused desire to lash out against their inability to control the world, their rage often leads them to make often distressingly dishonest accusations against the those they see responsible for what they see as a world gone mad. In most cases these days, the object of that rage is The Black Guy in the White House ©, who’s been blamed for everything from the recession (which started during the reign of Captain Codpiece ©) to the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby. That virtually none of what teabaggers blame the President for has any basis in fact is beside the point. They hate Barack Obama Just. That. Much….and so they’re perfectly willing to hold him accountable for the mess he inherited from his predecessor.

Has this President been perfect? Of course not. Has he made mistakes? Most definitely. I’d submit that most of those mistakes are the direct result of trying to be inclusive. By nature prone to seeking reconciliation, this President has attempted to accommodate those who would rather see America fail than credit him for anything positive. Those he seeks to find common ground with would sooner swallow a cyanide capsule than contemplate compromise (i.e.- capitulation). Today’s case in point is former Congressman Allen West, whose dishonesty and lack of integrity is rivaled only by his rage-fueled willingness to selectively interpret events to portray the President in the worst possible light. West is arguably the most dishonest, mean-spirited prevaricator in a Tea Party chock full of liars and thugs. In the space of one short Facebook post, he’s revealed himself to be willing to say anything, no matter how dishonest or inaccurate, in an effort to smear a President who for whatever reason(s) he clearly despises.

I want the American people to understand that tonight the Constitutional Republic we know as America has suffered a horrible defeat. Really? And how exactly is a democratically-elected Congress doing its job an example of America suffering a horrible defeat? How was the Constitution violated by Congress passing the negotiated agreement that ended the government shutdown?

Democracy can’t be held to be working only when it passes laws you like. By its very nature, democracy is the rule of the majority. Don’t like it? Win elections, and then you’ll be in a position to advance your agenda. You can’t claim that oppression and tyranny are rampant simply because you don’t get your way. That’s what spoiled children do.

Which is where Allen West enters the picture.

Obamacare is not the law of the land. It is an edict handed down by a tyrant, not a President. I don’t know what planet West inhabits, but Obamacare IS the law of the land. It was passed by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court; that makes it settled law. It’s not an edict handed down by a tyrant; it was passed by a majority vote in a democratically-elected Congress and then upheld by the highest court in the land. If that doesn’t make the Affordable Care Act a law, I don’t know what would.

Here’s an important thing about American democracy that West conveniently blows past: you don’t get to ignore and/or nullify a law simply because you don’t like it. West is free to live in his house of lies and propaganda, but that doesn’t make him the arbiter of American democracy.

[W]e can expect even more bad behavior from a President that continues to spit on our Constitution and in our eyes…and smile. I find this silliness particularly amusing/offensive. West and his ilk foam at the mouth frequently about how this President has trampled the Constitution. You’d think they’d at least try to support their argument, but I’ve never heard any of them offer a convincing argument as to exactly how he’s a serial violator and defiler of the document that defines how American democracy is supposed to work. No, it seems the mere act of uttering the accusation ipso facto makes it true.

If we were to look at things honestly, it’s West who would trample on the Constitution through his efforts to nullify a duly elected President and his signature health care law. Again, you don’t get to ignore and/or nullify a law simple because you don’t like it and you despise the President responsible for it.

As Obama stated, “I won.” Uh, no; at no time has the President claimed victory, “spiked the football,” “taken a victory lap,” or whatever cheap and dishonest description you choose to employ. In fact, he’s gone out of his way to make it clear that there were no “winners,” and that no one should be claiming victory over the travesty that was the government shutdown. This is where West exhibits his world class talent for lying shamelessly and repeatedly if it serves his cause.

Let’s be honest, shall we? The truth is that Allen West is a liar, a thug, and a cheat. Devoid of integrity and a sense of simple human decency, he can only fairly be described as a miserable excuse for humanity. He may be absolutely convinced that everything he thinks and says is Gospel, but decent human beings could be forgiven for thinking he’s off his medication.

The beautiful thing about America is that the right to free speech and expression means you have the absolute right to reveal yourself to be a jackass and a liar. Welcome to Allen West’s world. Then again, West was cashiered out of the Army for firing a pistol next to an Iraqi detainee’s head in an effort to intimidate him. With a track record like that, can anyone claim to be surprised he knows nothing of honesty and integrity?

Don’tcha just LOVE the 1st Amendment??
