Today's peace offering: The definitive Holiday survival guide

I realize that Christmas is upon us, but you can file this under “better late than never”….

If you can be bothered to turn away from Fox News Channel long enough to establish yourself once again in the reality-based world, you’ll recognize that there IS no War on Christmas. No one’s persecuting Christians, no one’s taking the “Christ” out of “Christmas,” and no one’s trampling on the rights and beliefs of Christians who want to celebrate the birth of their Savior. Would that more Christians would make an effort live their faith and live a Christ-like life instead of finding fault and condemning those who “fall short” in their eyes. That’s another story best left for another time.

Christmas is, among other things, a celebration commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ…assuming, of course, you believe in that story and the religion behind it. I don’t, but I respect the right of others to celebrate Christmas as they see fit. It would be nice to see that consideration and respect returned. In the meantime, here’s some suggestions on how to handle the alleged “War on Christmas”:

The “War on Christmas” is an artificial construct invented by those who traffic in propaganda and disinformation. There never has been a “War on Christmas”…or Christians, for that matter. There’s a certain mindset among Conservative Christians who view denying their absolute right to do anything they deem appropriate to be “persecution” by Liberal secular humanists and those who hate the baby Jesus. Whatever; they can stew in their own manufactured outrage. I’m going to try to find a way to enjoy Christmas.

Whether it’s “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Holiday,” “Merry Xmas,” or anything else, I hope that we’ll all be able to enjoy some peace and happiness- even if only for a little while.

At least until the “War on Easter” rears its ugly head….
