When you have no argument, comparing your adversaries to Hitler is always a classy move

At this point, WWII and the Holocaust are quite a ways back in the rearview mirror, but still not far enough that it’s okay to make flippant comparisons. When someone is acting like a piece of crap, it’s okay to call them out on it: But, c’mon, don’t compare them to Hitler. Just don’t do it.

Let’s review. Things Hitler did: organized a movement to form a “pure” race, ordered the killing of millions of innocent Jews and others he deemed unworthy of living. Things he did not do: try to usurp the authority of the Planning, Zoning & Adjustment Board in Wellington, Fla.

Board member Dr. Marcia Radosevich does not actually think director Tim Stillings is Hitler, but she feels there are some similarities….

Radosevich grew angry at the board’s monthly meeting on March 5 when Stillings was discussing a proposal that would allow village staff to more openly consider project applications outside of her and the rest of the committee. That is just TOO MUCH POWER for one man, and so she thought it was appropriate to liken him to one of the most vicious leaders in all of human history and do the Heil Hitler salute.

Stillings was naturally unamused.

“It becomes uncomfortable when you’re dealing with an issue whether it’s a board member or the public and they make it personal,” Stillings said. “There’s an attachment of you as a person to the discussion. That’s all that bothered me — that it became personal and not about the issue.”

Radosevich apparently tried to laugh it off, but that only works when things contain a shred of humor. That was not the case here, and witnesses said things got real awkward real fast.

Her two-year appointment ends May 31, if you’re curious.
