Better to be thought a fool and a bigot than to be Patrick Dollard and...oh, never mind....

Can’t we all just get along?

Perhaps I’m just naive, but I have a difficult time wrapping my head around the idea that someone could hate a class of people with a fervor and vacuity such as Dollard’s put on display. I’ll go out on a limb and hazard a guess that Dollard could count the number of Muslims he knows on one hand and still have a couple fingers remaining. Not knowing more often than not means not understanding, and I don’t imagine it’s a stretch to say that Dollard couldn’t be bothered to walk a mile in ANYONE’S shoes…much less a Muslim’s.

The fact that Dollard writes for Breitbart News (No, I’m not about to dignify that cesspool with a link), the fact-starved, rage-fueled media empire started by the late Andrew Breitbart, seems a perfect fit for someone filled with such disdain for The Other. Breitbart, with whom I engaged in a brief Twitter contretemps prior to his timely demise, wasn’t exactly an understudy for the Prince of Peace. He attracted a truly ignorant and hateful class of trolls who call themselves “journalists,” but wouldn’t recognize objective journalism if she showed up with a pair of kneepads and a tube of AstroGlide. Patrick Dollard is neither “objective” nor a “journalist”…not that lacking either or both is an impediment to spewing his special brand of hatred and rage.

I could care less about what Dollard thinks- about anything- except that he represents a truly intolerant strain of hatred that refuses to recognize the humanity and validity of non-Christians. Never mind that he completely ignores the reality that terrorism committed by angry white Males is a far more pressing problem- Eric Rudolph, Scott Roeder, Paul Hill, Ted Kaczynski, Timothy McVeigh, etc., are only the beginning of our very own domestic terrorism problem. It wouldn’t surprise me if Dollard were to claim that acts of terrorism are the province of Evil Swarthy Brown People, and that acts of senseless, indiscriminate violence committed by White males are merely “politically-motivated” Whites defending their “rights.”

The idea that anyone could in all seriousness call for the indiscriminate slaughter of Muslims as some sort of “evening the score” is as offensive as it is absurdly inhuman. Of course, the 1st Amendment being what it is, free speech (as I’ve said many a time previously) can be and very often is offensive and objectionable speech. Twitter is where truly stupid and hateful people go to broadcast their astounding ignorance and hatred of The Other to a world-wide audience to an audience of similarly wired knuckle dragger. Dollard has certainly excelled in that department.

Fortunately, Dollard has been getting pilloried by good and decent Americans who understand that advocating genocide is beyond the pale. Most reasonable folks understand that calling oneself a “journalist” comes with certain expectations and responsibilities…like not advocating for the indiscriminate murder of people he can’t be bothered to understand.

For my part, I can only hope that there’s a reserved parking space in Hell for Dollard and that he gets to try it out soon. I’m not going to sink to Dollard’s level and spew the sort of hatred at him that he’s directed at Muslims. If, as I do, you believe in karma, you know that Dollard will get his…and deservingly so.

For now, let’s all just be grateful we don’t have to wake up next to him every morning. I know I am.
