If it's inevitable, you might as lay back and enjoy it...'cuz it's a man's world, don'tchaknow?

The conservative minds of the Heritage Foundation have found a way for Republicans to shrink the gender gap: They need to persuade more women to get their MRS degrees. The advocacy group held a gathering of women of the right Monday afternoon to mark the final day of Women’s History Month — and the consensus was that women ought to go back in history. If Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg’s mantra is “lean in,” these women were proposing that women lean back: get married, take care of kids and let men earn the wages…. What interests [Mona] Charen and the other women on the stage is their belief, as Charen put it, that “feminism has done so much damage to happiness.” And the solution to this damage, it turns out, is matrimony — the same thing that will solve problems such as income inequality and the Republican Party’s standing among women.

Remember when Republicans were all about reaching out to women? Turns out that they’ve no clue how to deal with women or the issues they consider important. When male members of your party are reduced to “sensitivity” training, you have to know you’re going to struggle to bring the distaff half of the population over to your side. Not that Republican males really give a damn about what the “little ladies” want. When you believe that women are property and incapable of making sound decisions regarding their own bodies, you’re going to have a tough time carrying the soccer mom vote.

Remember when being a Republican woman wasn’t an exercise in self-loathing? Given the homophobic, sexist, and just plain crazy nature of today’s GOP, a reasonable person would have to wonder why any woman with even a modicum of self-esteem would remain in a party dedicated to making sure they’re second-class citizens and legally defined as the property of men. Even more, you’d have to wonder about women who would vote for those dedicated to the subjugation of women? Just the other day, though, I saw a Republican spokeswoman on television flacking for the Conservative position that gender pay inequity really isn’t such a bad thing. Hey, who needs equality when you can just marry a rich doctor or lawyer and worry about nothing more pressing than cranking out babies and playing housewife…amiright??

Last week, I saw a bumper sticker that seemed to sum up the sorry state of our body politice:

VOTE DEMOCRATIC! WE’RE NOT PERFECT…BUT THEY’RE NUTS!!

Yes, I’m a flaming Liberal, and I vote Democratic. More often than not, my vote isn’t as much cast in support of a candidate as it is in recognition that the opposition has a tenuous grip on reality AND they firmly believe God Almighty is on their side. Yes, God’s a Republican who’s blessed the Tea Party with Her imprimatur. Or so many of those on the right side of the political spectrum have convinced themselves. Yeah, that’s more than a little nuts.

IF women want their rights and issues to be treated with respect and dignity, IF they don’t want to be treated as property, and IF they don’t want to be defined as second-class citizens, the choice is clear.

Or they can continue to vote Republican and participate in their own subjugation and marginalization.
