Today's dispatch from the anti-choice crowd: Ice cream kills babies

The Daily Caller advises us today that a Portland, Oregon, ice cream parlor offended the sensibilities of all good pearl-clutching citizens Thursday by holding a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood, and it even “created a new flavor of the frozen treat to mark the occasion.” Oh no! Now even ice cream has lost its innocence!…. The parlor, What’s the Scoop, donated 10% of all sales during a three-hour window to Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon, Planned Parenthood’s political arm, and featured the “exclusive, limited-edition ROSE CITY REVOLUTION flavor,” according to PPAO’s Facebook page. Rose City is one of Portland, Oregon’s nicknames.

Wow…it sure seems like the baby-killers will go to ANY length to promote their genocide of the unborn, doesn’t it? As it is elsewhere, here in Portland, one of the nation’s foremost baby-killing meccas, those with the blood of the unborn on their hands refuse to acknowledge the unquestioned sinfulness of their actions. So shameless are they that they’re raising money to support their baby abattoirs with…wait for it…ice cream.

Yes, it’s true…and now every good, God-fearing, baby-loving, righteous, patriotic ‘Merican has even more reason to hate the People’s Republic of Portlandia. Ferchrissakes, they even have a naked bike ride every summer, where women ride around town displaying their assets and tempting men to engage in all manner of licentiousness and sin. Surely, with ice cream undeniably being God’s Divine gift to ‘Merica, the godless Libruls of Puddletown shouldn’t be allowed to partake of such a wonderful, blessed bounty.

As any true Christian ‘Merican knows, more than 90% of the services Planned Parenthood provides are abortions or abortion-related. How do I know this to be true? Because Jon Kyl told me so! Sure, Planned Parenthood SAYS that only 3% of the services they provide are related to abortion, but who are you going to believe? A former Senator and committed Christian from the Great Godly State of Arizona? Or Planned Parenthood’s audited annual report?

(I know all those godless Communists who believe in “facts” say they can “prove” Planned Parenthood’s 3% claim…but why would you need facts when you have Jesus’ righteous Holy Random Number Generator on your side?)

Then again, what else could you reasonably expect from people who’d hold an open-casket wake for an aborted fetus? Or invade a Unitarian Church during Sunday services and scream at the parishioners for their alleged pro-choice sinfulness and “unChristian beliefs?” These are not people accustomed to thinking rationally or objectively, nor are they kind, generous, or rational. Their default modus operandi is to filter all external stimuli through the rage center of their brain, thus making them immune to things like “facts” and “reality” and nullifying any theology/belief system that doesn’t mesh perfectly with their own.

North Williams Avenue’s What’s the Scoop? ice-cream shop was deluged with threatening phone calls and messages after holding a July 17 fundraiser for Planned Parenthood. “Some of them have been scary,” owner Jodie Ostrovsky told WW on July 18. “We don’t know why they’re telling us that we have problems when they’re saying terrible, threatening things.” The ice-cream shop created a flavor called Rose City Revolution for the reproductive health group to sell, and donated some of the proceeds. Ostrevsky had also hosted similar fundraisers for cystic fibrosis and vaccination charities, without incident. The “threatening” calls and messages began after a blog post on the anti-abortion website LifeNews.com suggested the ice-cream flavor be called “blood and scream.” On July 21, LifeNews writer Steven Ertelt of Salem again invited readers to complain to the shop. This time, however, Ertelt asked that anti-abortion readers do so “politely.”

In the true spirit of the anti-choice movement, opposition to the blasphemous, anti-Christian belief that women should be the ones to make decisions regarding their bodies comes with threats, insults, and self-righteous ugliness. The assumption seems to be that Planned Parenthood = abortion mill, which is true…IF you focus only on the 3% of services PP provides to women, some of whom can’t afford to go anywhere else. When 32 of every 33 dollars PP spends going to not-abortion health services for women, you’d think the ninnies could grasp that PP isn’t promoting abortion. No wants WANTS an abortion; women don’t get pregnant because they really want to experience and savor the abortion experience, but they deserve to be able to make an informed decision with ALL available options open to them.

With most of the services provided by PP having nothing to do with abortion, it would be nice if the anti-choice zealots could broaden their focus to recognize and acknowledge the other services the organization provides to women. Some of those services actually can, and in some cases do, reduce the likelihood of abortion…which you’d think would appeal to the anti-choice crowd. Unfortunately, the mere mention of “abortion” sends anti-choicers into paroxysms of self-righteous outrage. Reason goes out the window as they elevate their narrow, judgmental worldview above other, more rational ones. When your’s is the One, True, and Only Faith, you’re prone to that sort of thing.

This is what allows intolerant anti-choice zealots lacking in basic human decency to excoriate and harass an ice-cream parlor for the high crime of raising money for Planned Parenthood. What’s The Scoop? did nothing wrong in raising money for PP. The shop’s fundraiser was intended to support an organization which provides a wide range of health and educational services to women who in many cases have nowhere else to go. It’s not about killing babies; it’s about providing for the health and well-being of women…and much of what PP does actually helps to reduce the likelihood of abortion…not that the ninnies who called to harass What’s The Scoop? care about the truth. Their math is simple: 3% = baby killing factory.

Sometimes self-righteous outrage and reaction is its own reward, eh?
