When you hit your knees tonight, thank God that Michele Bachmann will never be President

[Bachmann’s] mind must be a horrible place, a place of bats and alligators and carnival rides staffed by sad-faced clowns wielding axes in one hand and machetes in the other. I don’t know how you get yourself down a path that leaves you believing things like that are somebody’s secret plan, but if you believe that it makes all the little things like “half-century old plan to put a Kenyan citizen in the White House” or “government plan to buy up all of the ammunition so you people can’t get any” look like ho-hum stuff in comparison.

It’s the source of no small amount of shame for me to acknowledge that Michele Bachmann is the Congresscritter representing the district I went to high school in. It embarrasses me to think that I was evidently surrounded by a cabal of uber-Jesus-y maroons (there’s really no nice way to describe them) so thoroughly incapable of independent thought that they’d repeatedly vote for such a brain-dead ninny.

Over the years, Bachmann has been a veritable hit parade of unrequited Right-wing lunacy. Her latest offering, that immigrant children are “future victims of a liberal plot to use unwilling children for medical experiments” defies rational understanding. Then again, no reasonable observer would have ever had cause to use “rational” and “Michele Bachmann” in the same sentence. Maybe not even the same paragraph.

Yep…that’s right; unaccompanied minors fleeing violence in Central America will be sent to hospitals that will be given millions of taxpayers dollars to forcibly perform all manner of unspeakable experiments upon them. Because Barack Obama and his Liberal minions are Just. That. Despicable. Either that, or

[T]he conservative movement is absolutely batshit crazy, and a sizable portion of all the people they elect are similarly batshit crazy, and they all get their news from batshit crazy news sources staffed by batshit crazy people until everything is just a blur of crazy-ass conspiracy theories that they’ve convinced themselves of primarily because a bunch of equally batshit crazy people claim they believe them as well.

Time was when Conservatives represented a credible political philosophy worthy of being serious consideration. These days, when people like Bachmann, Louie Gohmert, Allen West, Rick Perry, and Steve Stockman call themselves (with a straight face) “Conservative,” you know the crazy train has left the station.

You can’t hope to have a rational debate with people who are completely and thoroughly irrational. There’s no way we can hope to move America forward when so many are so invested in believing things that are utterly ridiculous and demonstrably untrue. The truly sad thing is that Michele Bachmann and her fellow idiots ideologues have been elected and (even worse) RE-elected by voters in their districts. What does that say about American voters? Certainly nothing good.

The good news is that it’s a virtual certainty that Bachmann will never occupy the White House…and for that all Americans should breathe a huge sigh of relief.
