I want my America back...the one where a Conservative White male is President

One of the most maddening and disturbing aspects of the past five-plus years has been the loud, self-righteous protests of those who can’t stomach the idea of a Black man inhabiting the White House. They’ll deny it’s about race ‘til their dying breath, but voices like Dinesh D’Souza (not exactly lily white himself) have consistently employed code words characteristic of the dog whistle racism that appeals to the Fox News generation.

Why else would it be that Conservatives suddenly became convinced the deficit is the bogeyman threatening our children and grandchildren? It wasn’t when Ronald Reagan tripled it, nor when George W. Bush doubled it again. No, concern for the deficit can be dated to January 20, 2009, when Barack Obama took the oath of office. Suddenly, Conservatives had to face the reality of The Black Man in the White House ©…and they didn’t like it. Not one little bit.

Judging by the deeply personal and offensive nature of the attacks leveled against this President, it seems clear Conservatives decided early on that decency’s for losers and Liberals. When the Republican Senate Minority Leader can openly and without reservation state that Job One was making certain Barack Obama was a one-term President, you know it’s not about doing the people’s business. Not in any sense. It’s about the very personal destruction of a President they despise for reasons that can ultimately be boiled down to one thing: racism.

“Living in a hut in a Kenya slum?” Can you imagine the hue and cry, the weeping and gnashing of teeth that would have been heard from the Right had such a deeply offensive personal insult been leveled at George W. Bush? Then again, Conservatives have proven since Day One that they’re willing to indict this President for the same silly, petty things they gave the previous a free pass for. Congressional Republicans have essentially spent the past five-plus years with their thumbs firmly inserted in their backsides. Their extended temper tantrum has meant that Americans have suffered because all Republicans truly care about is embarrassing the President and rendering him politically impotent.

Now there’s some high-grade inspired leadership, eh?
