Republicans: Screwing the working class since...well, since forever

The National Labor Relations Board is a federal agency that has the exclusive power to enforce much of America’s labor law. If an employer tries to unlawfully intimidate workers against joining a union, or if it retaliates against pro-union workers, or if it refuses to bargain with its workers’ union, the NLRB is responsible for enforcing the law against that employer. Yet, if a bill introduced by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) — the top Republican on the Senate committee responsible for labor issues — were to become law, then the NLRB would likely become a stagnant, often frozen institution that could be unable to act in the face of flagrant violations of the law.

One of the historic roles of government has been to protect the “little guy” from the machinations of the rich and powerful. The problem with that protection, of course, is that it can prevent those able to purchase government from getting what they want. American democracy (or, more accurately, oligarchy or plutocracy) being what it is, money may not talk, but it can buy access who will listen when you have something to say. Democracy in its purest form isn’t about money or power, it’s about people using their voices to determine the direction the collective will move. By that definition, America is no longer a democracy, and the “little guy” can no long count on the protection of the government he pays taxes to. Because those tax dollars are what are being used to keep him under the thumb of CEOs and those who depend on the labor of the “little guy” to maintain their multi-million-dollar compensation packages. Our tax dollars are being used to finance and maintain that caters to the interests of the 1%.

Don’tcha just LOVE America??

What I fail to understand is how, despite their ongoing efforts to screw the 99%, Republicans can be held to have a reasonable chance of taking control of the Senate in November. They absolutely could end up with control of both houses of Congress, which would virtually guarantee that nothing of substance will be accomplished prior to the 2016 Presidential election. Despite the clear and present dangers Republicans pose to the interests and well-being of the 99%, Americans continue voting for Republicans, because Liberals. And freedom.

How is it that Americans can repeatedly by propagandized into voting for candidates who will turn around and work to elevate the interests of the 1% over their constituents. Why will Americans vote for those who profess to be for the “little guy” until Election Day and the day after become the official legislative spokesperson for corporate America? Are Americans Just. That. Stupid? Are they so malleable and suggestible that millions of advertising dollars can convince them that what’s provably wrong is in fact Gospel? Are they so conditioned to hate Liberals that the merest hint of the word is enough to send good, God-fearing American patriots scurrying to the polls to cast their votes for Republicans?

The answer to those questions should be self-evident by now. In a country willing to make Fox News Channel the most watched cable news channel, it’s no surprise that voters will believe the worst about the Left and thinking the Right to be Guardians of Virtue and American Decency. We get exactly the quality of government we deserve…and it appears we’re heading that direction again. Who know our standards were so abysmally low?

WE DESERVE BETTER…but we’ll never get it if we keep electing Republicans.

FREEDUMB!!!
