WASHINGTON — In front of a highly supportive crowd at the Values Voter Summit, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) accused Democrats on Friday of being an “extreme, radical party” intent on taking away the rights of Americans…. “These are dangerous, radical times,” Cruz said at the conservative conference, where he received multiple standing ovations during a 30-minute speech that touched on everything from gun rights, Obamacare and abortion to the persecution of Christians around the globe. Cruz said the U.S. is fundamentally a center-right nation and that he expects the GOP to take back the Senate this year, and the White House in 2016.
(This is a little late, but I’ve been out of town slaying dragons…so I’ll have to ask y’all to indulge me here….)
This really should be the Coffee Spew Moment of the Month. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), accusing DEMOCRATS of being “extreme” and “radical?” This from the Second Coming of Joseph McCarthy, who seldom passes on an opportunity to disrespect the President…or the poor…or minorities…or any non-White, non-Republican person and/or group? Cruz is the same senator who’d rather let America burn than grant Barack Obama anything even faintly resembling a victory. He’d rather shut the government down and cost our economy billions than give into what a majority of Americans have time and again indicated they want. Worst of all, he’d rather see millions of Americans go uninsured and even die from not being able to afford healthcare than allow Obamacare to remain the law of the land.
Then again, it’s never been about the American Sheeple- never has, never will be. It’s about political power and catering to the interests of the 1%. Same as it’s ever been.
Since becoming the junior senator from Texas, Cruz has proceeded to alienate the vast majority of his colleagues on Capitol Hill and flabbergast most of the rest of us with his sheer unmedicated, self-serving lunacy. His lust for power and control and his willingness to say and do whatever it takes to satiate that lust is virtually limitless. There seems to be no one and no idea he won’t throw under the bus if it has a chance of advancing his political prospects. For him to call ANYONE extreme and/or radical seems the height of arrogance and indicative of a dangerously low level of self-awareness.
If pursuing policies designed to benefit the American middle class, the poor, the sick, and the elderly is the new “extreme,” then Democrats should embrace that label proudly and immediately. If working to rebuild our infrastructure, create a working health care systems, and ensure equal opportunity for all is the new “radical,” then let’s own it…because all Ted Cruz really cares about is Ted Cruz. Having fully embraced being the face of a new McCarthyism as the means to propel him to the top of the political food chain, it’s not a stretch to wonder if Cruz isn’t the embodiment of Evil- Conservatism in its purest, most inhuman form.
Before he gets himself off calling Democrats “extreme” and “radical,” he might want to take a good, long look in the mirror…unless that much self-awareness is something he’s incapable- or frightened- of.
