When Jesus said "Come unto me," I don't think this was what He meant

From Dan Savage…comes this disturbing video of people who are using their affinity for swinging to spread the Word of the Lord…. To paraphrase Hank Hill, these people are not making Christianity sexier, they’re making swinging more awful.

I realize that those who practice Christianity come in many sizes, colors, shapes…and sexual proclivities. While trying to wrap my head around the idea of “swinging for Jesus,” I realized that everything has its limit, beyond which nothing acceptable happens. Most Christians- even the Liberal, Progressive ones who support marriage equality- tend to frown on alternative sexual practices like swinging and polyamory. It’s hard to preach fidelity and faithfulness while you’re having sex with someone else’s wife…even if that someone else watches the proceedings.

The question, then, is whether people who engage in these activities are worse swingers or worse Christians? Or is it possible that Christianity and wife-swapping aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive? Because this is the internet, this is actually a thing; there’s a website for Christian swingers who want to meet like-minded couples. The question is whether or not swinging constitutes infidelity and adultery in the eyes of the Lord…or whether it’s all good as long as it involves consenting adults and everybody’s OK with schtupping each other’s significant others in various and assorted combinations of couplings?

Today’s meeting of the Orlando chapter of “Gang-Banging for Jesus” will come to order. Brother Johnson, did you remember to bring the AstroGlide?

Then again, one person’s prayer and supplication is another’s gang-bang, eh? We all come to Jesus in different ways. I don’t judge. ;-)
