If there’s one unspoken rule in Texas, it’s that you never, ever, ever broadcast a live news report during church. Of course, since pretty much any GOP event in the state qualifies as “church,” some feel that rolling cameras at a political event is in poor taste.
A supporter at an event for Lt. Governor-elect Dan Patrick attacked a reporter for broadcasting during a Christian prayer. Blogger Mike McGuff says that KTRK reporter was accosted by a Patrick supporter for rolling the cameras as the GOP promoted the Christian religion.
According to KRIV reporter Isiah Carey, who snapped a photo of the confrontation on his phone, the Patrick supporter began shoving KRIV reporter Foti Kallergis at the Governor-elect’s Houston watch party. “Nice! Just got assaulted by someone live on air,” Kallergis tweeted at the time of the incident.
On Instagram, Carey wrote that reporter Deborah Wrigley had to break up the embarrassing mess.
Deborah Wrigley from channel 13 had to step in and stop the Republican supporter (tan jacket) from attacking her fellow reporter (black suit) on the air. The man was offended because the reporter was live on air during a prayer at Lt.Governor Elect Dan Patrick’s watch party. Wrigley says then another woman from the event approached her and called her a fucking bitch. Keep in mind this is during a physical assault over interrupting a prayer. Where was Jesus in this room?
According to McGuff, as Wrigley was intervening, a woman called her a “f-cking b-tch.”
