As one wag so eloquently put it, “There’s no getting around the fact that Obama no longer gives a f—k.”
I never cease to be amazed by the many and varied ways Barack Obama manages to piss off the keepers of all that’s right and decent on the Far Right. It’s as if this President can do nothing- and I do mean nothing- right. If he’s drinking a Coke, detractors will wax self-righteous in wondering what he has against Pepsi. If he’s eating a salad, some will demand to know why he hates hamburgers. The list is both long and ridiculous, because there is almost literally nothing that those who hate the President won’t criticize him for.
It’s especially interesting when you consider the things these same folks gave George W. Bush a free pass on virtually everything, yet their expectations of Barack Obama are as unreasonable and ridiculous as they are mean-spirited. It would be comical if the ninnies weren’t serious.
So the President wore a tiara in a picture with a group of Girl Scouts. Who cares? What is so “wrong,” “inappropriate,” or “unPresidential” about shown his human side and making the days of a few young girls? Why is the idea of making children smile enough to send Right-wing ninnies into fits of vein-popping rage? Don’t y’all have better, more productive things to do with your time?
President Barack Obama eschewed one of his self-professed rules of the job for a Girl Scout troop earlier this year.
Ignoring his own stern warning to not “put stuff on your head if you’re president,” Obama donned a tiara while posing for a photo with Girl Scout Troop 2612, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. White House photographer Pete Souza shared the photo for the first time on Wednesday.
I get that people have their own personal expectations of what a President should be, do, or say. I understand that some folks hate Barack Obama with a visceral, intensely personal and irrational hatred that defies reason, so no matter what he might do (or not do), it won’t be enough to please them. That probably says far more about them than it ever could about the President.
If you’re so far gone that the idea of a President making the day of a few young girls sends you into paroxysm or righteous outrage, might I suggest you get over yourself? You might also want to give some serious thought to seeking professional help. You need it.
