In the aftermath of yesterday’s massacre in Paris, many Muslims have taken to social media to voice their revulsion and to make it clear they don’t condone murder in the name of Allah. The truth is that the vast majority of Muslims are kind, peace-loving people who merely want to be able to live their lives and practice their faith.
The fact that a few bloodthirsty zealots have hijacked Islam and perverted it into something ugly is not a blanket condemnation of Muslims, nor should it be interpreted as such. To support this, I’ve mined some tweets which illustrate that good Muslims don’t advocate or participate in the taking of life in the name of Allah.
The massacre at the offices of Charlie Hebdo was not about “avenging the Prophet,” as the gunmen claimed. It was about intolerance, zealotry, and cowardice. If your faith is threatened by cartoons, you have no faith.
