You’ll hear from an Islamophobic lady who fears “jihad” in the U.S., and who believes that a “Muslim prayer rug” had been found along the border. Um, no… it was an Adidas soccer shirt. You’ll be amused by the lady who is deeply concerned about Chinese people crossing the border. Maybe she doesn’t care for chop suey? You’ll burst out laughing at the guy who claims that President Obama is gay, and has killed “four of his boyfriends”. And that’s just the BEGINNING of his comical screed. And you might perform a double-face palm when you hear a lady declare that President Obama “is not going to stop until he kills and destroys the America we love.” Nor does she want her grandchildren growing up in “Obama’s America”… she wants “Reagan’s America.” Too bad she wasn’t asked to explain what “Reagan’s America” is, since her response was sure to have been mind-blowingly daft. Maybe it’s because Obama is supposedly promoting a “race war?”
The reasons to despair for the state and future of our Republic are too numerous to mention, and judging by what happened in Houston it’s certainly not getting any better. Having lived there for 10+ years (3,722 days…but who was counting?), I can attest that this video was very likely not selectively edited to paint Right-wing nutjobs in the worst possible light. Who would need to when they’re perfectly capable of and willing to hoist themselves on their own petard?
The level of stupid extant in the people interviewed is representative of far too many Texans who believe that illegal immigration is ruining America…even as they use illegals to mow their lawns, tend their gardens, and collect their trash- among other things. The hypocrisy and astonishing ignorance is breathtaking, and it’s made even moreso by those who have no problem broadcasting their lunacy to the world. John Cleese once said that they truly stupid people are those too stupid to recognize their stupidity. This rally provided more than ample proof of that theorem.
How do you have a rational debate with someone who seriously believes the President is gay and killed “four of his boyfriends.” A member of my own family is convinced that Obama is a Muslim, and I’m here to tell you that there’s simply no way to reason with someone willing to believe something so breathtakingly stupid and demonstrably false.
If those of us on the left side of the political spectrum need any more reason to vote than what’s contained in this video, I can’t imagine what it would be. By staying away from the polls, Liberals and Progressives are ceding the political stage to those who shouldn’t be trusted with a bank account, much less a voice in who represents us in Washington. As much as I try to refrain from name-calling, sometimes you just have to call out stupid for what it is…and this really was Stoopid writ large.
