Honestly, I’m not at all certain why Mediaite would feel it necessary to apologize for placing Ben Carson on a list that very accurately describes him. Whether he needs to be on a “watch list” is open to debate, but there can be a little doubt that Carson’s an knuckle-dragging extremist bent on pushing ignorance, reaction, and Right-wing propaganda. Calling him a Right-wing nutjob is not something I originated. Much of the not-Right-wing media understand that Carson isn’t exactly a source of reasonable and unbiased political observations. He’s demonstrated a propensity for proving himself a fool by tossing all manner of ridiculous and unfounded accusations at President Obama, some of them deeply personal and offensive. Why anyone should feel it necessary to apologize for pointing that out defies explanation.
IF Carson were to demonstrate himself willing to discuss issues that impact this country based on the facts of the matter, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. If he could refrain from patently ridiculous assertions and distressingly personal insults and innuendo directed at the President, it might be easier to take him seriously…or at least believe that what he has to say is worth listening to. Unfortunately for Carson, he’s demonstrated himself unworthy of such consideration. He’s proven unable to debate the President on the merits, so the only weapons he has at his disposal are unfounded accusations and cheap personal insults.
Not exactly the stuff of leadership, eh?
There’s a disturbing tendency among Liberals to apologize whenever Conservatives get their panties in a wad, which they invariably do at the slightest provocation. Conservatives don’t like being called on their B.S., and when they are they too often respond by claiming offense. Sometimes telling the truth and calling things what they are isn’t just the best option…it’s the ONLY option. If people can’t handle being called out for being ridiculous, they have two choices- get off the stage or put on their big boy pants and man up.
More than ever, we need to forcefully call out out Right-wing nutjobs like Carson and others whose idea of debate is to lob cheap personal insults at the President. We need to stop apologizing for doing so. It’s time to stand up against those who traffic in the ridiculous and have nothing of substance to offer. It’s time to stop worrying about offending the tender sensibilities of those like Ben Carson who deserve little more than scorn and ridicule.
